Doctors getting assaulted : A mirror to medical fraternity

Disclaimer: Read with an open and calm mind..If you are full of hot air in head, you might as well burst open....

Doctors are assaulted and beaten so many times in our Indian government hospitals...Recent incidence in Lok Nayak Hospital has shaken whole medical fraternity and had raised this issue with a whole new perspective..This crime must be condemned at all possible levels and govt must look into this matter seriously so that such things don't happen in future.
Causes of such incidences are obvious : Lack of security inside hospital, apathy of hospital administration towards resident doctors, general attitude of public towards doctors and sorry to say but many times doctor himself....
I am not arguing against the first three reasons which give rise to such incidence because they are in the core of whole situation...But in this post, I am talking about us, the doctors being the main trigger of such incidences...
So much has already been written and circulated about the miserable conditions a doctor has to face and how they are not valued in society like older times today but I am talking  about the other side...A mirror to us, the doctors..

Just try to put yourself in patient's shoe (it's difficult but atleast try)..
Go to any emergency/casualty of any hospital and you will  confront a scene of complete chaos and anarchy...patients writhing in pain everywhere, people laying on floor, tables or any absurd inch of space they can find..One or two young doctors completely surrounded by patients , all screaming on top of their lungs...nurses and other supporting staff laughing, making tea and busy filling registers instead of tending to patients....
You alongwith your sick kin enter the room clueless about how to proceed...You ask someone for help, nobody listens...You ask nurse about directions, she screams back on you..You somehow spot the doctor, and try to talk to him but he can't hear you, he is so busy....After a while when you get to him, he also screams at you cause you don't have "hospital parcha" (registration slip) made...Nobody told you in first place that it has to be made...All this while, the condition of your kin deteriorates...You still somehow manage the queue, the parcha thing, the crowd and finally get to doctor...
Doctor also screams and scolds you and patient on speaking every damn sentence because according to him , the patient is speaking irrelevant things and rubbish...But how is a patient supposed to know what is relevant and what is not?? Pardon him/her if he is not as educated as a doctor is...
Sometimes doctors go on to the extent of calling patient , the age of their grand parents "moron" and "fool"...Many times, they just touch the patient and dismiss him as feigning the disease or call it a complete drama and again with lots of anger, shouting and disgust....
Even if, it's just psychological still patient or relatives don't know it and they do feel the pain.. Don't get me even started on what goes on inside labor rooms behind restricted entry zones...Everyone knows how patients in insufferable labor pain are behaved with..Everyone of us must have witnessed disgusting scenes of cruelty with patients, which I can't even describe on this public platform..
Such things compel them to be violent and threaten the doctor or raise their hands...More often than not, this gets their work done easily...Afterall movies like WANTED, MUNNABHAI MBBS  and many others also have scenes where hero gets treatment for his girlfriend easily by threatening doctor..
Just to make it clear, such kind of harsh doctors are just a fraction of whole medical community, the way only a few out of so many patient are goons and criminal type..
As per doctors, they are not at fault because they are so overloaded with patients and work..
Agree, but does that really work as a good excuse for showing the kind of behavior you show?? A little sympathy with patients in pain and some sweet words of assurance instead of harsh screaming can avert majority of such incidences...A doctor is supposed to be a softspoken, pleasant and angel like person and it's often unacceptable to see him/her so ignorant and apathetic  towards his patients...I know it's not easy to keep cool in the conditions prevailing in our hospitals but there is no other way...We don't have an option about it...
Ideally adequate infrastructure, less crowd, more doctors and better facilities can only cure this problem...But till that happens, we have to take that extra steps, that extra effort, that extra compassion which is comforting to our patients...Consider such incidences as occupational hazards and till govt and authorities do some concrete arrangements, the onus of our safety and security lies on us...
I know, the thing I talked about makes hardly 10-20% contribution to the cause of such incidences but it's still worth talking about...Many other people are doing commendable job on rest 90%..

Burden of being middle class : borne in wrong country ???

I am a perfect example of a middle class citizen of our so respected and beloved nation India...I am highly educated, aware, and earning member of society...Since childhood my parents have pressurized me to study hard so that I may get admission in one of those prestigious medical and engineering colleges...As they say, this is the only way by which I can pull my family out of their financial hardships and also fulfill my dreams of living a decent standard of life...
So I did study all nights, begged a job at top MNC and started working my arse off in hope of making it big...
I paid almost a third of my salary as income tax..I pay for my childrens' education myself...I pay for all the medical expanses of my family myself..I also pay service tax, VAT on everything I buy, everytime I eat outside...I pay heavy toll tax whenever I use roads.. I pay for every inch of breathing space I use... I pay 15- 16% interest on my house loan and car loan but I receive only 8% on my fixed deposits and other investments.. This inevitably led me into thinking that is this govt spending a single penny on me ???
I remember the days when college education used to be almost free, we used to get subsidy on petrol, diesel and LPG...There was no such thing as water bill..We didn't need to pay for parking my vehicle and for the security of my society apartment...At that time, govt was spending some amount on us : the middle class..
Suddenly one fine day govt thought that it's luxury to cook, so they removed subsidy on LPG...They thought that people should afford their education on their own, so they stopped creating new schools and colleges and universities...Govt thought that peoples' health is their own concern, so govt stopped opening new hospitals and put on fees in existing ones..Govt thought that it's not her responsiblity to provide for roads, so they started building new roads on PPP model and levied heavy toll tax on all of them...
Dear govt, if I can and should pay for all the products and services I use then what the hell am I paying my income tax for ??What the hell are you doing with all the money ???
I see, you are giving free wheat, rice, pulses in the dirt price to poors in the name of food security...you are giving free laptops to those who don't know how to switch it on...you are giving hundred days wages to those lazy people for doing almost no work under MNREGA...You are waiving off all their loans in exchange for nothing...You are giving scholarships and free coachings to reserved categories because they vote for you.
Not just poors, you are a  wellwisher of billionares and high class industrialists as well.... You sell country's natural resources to them for cheap prices..you restucture their loans to benefit them...You allow them to work in every sector and as per their convenience to make  large business.. You fill your Swiss bank lockers and modify policies  in their favor, not realizing that they charge us (consumers) exorbitantly to make up for all the bribe that they paid to you...

You allow all this to happen because it fills your  personal deep pockets and  some votes !!  In this desperate attempt to save your sinking boat in next elections you are forgetting that we also exist..THE MIDDLE CLASS...
We contribute maximum in your income tax and other revenues..We make almost whole of your working human resources...We go abroad to work and make India's name proud over there..Yet, we feel like we have been ignored..We are being used as a mule to burden everybody's needs..Yours, poors, and riches...We contribute maximum but receive nothing in return...
All we want is some respect, some dignity and some sensibilities from your side for us...I have not lost hopes yet, never will because keeping my hopes alive and working for it, is what defines me... THE MIDDLE CLASS.
